Undefeated Megumi Fujii Finally Gets Crack at a Title at Bellator 34

Megumi Fujii gets her long-awaited opportunity to win a championship at Bellator 34 on Oct. 28.

The promotion confirmed the date of the undefeated star's matchup with Zoila Frausto on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old Fujii is 22-0 in a sterling career, including 18 wins by way of submission, and she's also considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound female fighter in the world, yet she's never captured an MMA championship.

In 2008, she was scheduled to fight Ana Michelle Tavares in the finals of the 2008 Smackgirl World Remix Tournament, but the promotion folded and the finals never happened.

Fujii has earned several jiu-jitsu and sambo championships, but Oct. 28 might finally see her reign over an MMA promotion.

She's breezed through her first two opponents in the 115-pound tourney, defeating Carla Esparza via second-round arm bar and Lisa Ward also via arm bar, in the first round.

"For the championship fight against Zoila I'm really going to focus on my striking ability," Fujii said in a press release. "I want to come back to the States strong and try and win the Bellator Championship."

Her matchup with Frausto will mark the fourth fight in just over four months for the submission wizard.

Frausto, meanwhile, is 9-1, advancing to the finals with decision victories over Jessica Pene and Jessica Aguilar. The split decision victory Against Aguilar however was controversial, as many thought she was outstruck in a largely stand-up affair.

The 27-year-old Frausto has captured four straight wins overall.

"This is the biggest women's tournament in the world, stacked with the best competition in the weight class," said Frausto in the release. "Winning this tournament would make me the best of the best, and I want that more than anything in the world right now."

Bellator 34 will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
