WEC 51 Live Blog: Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia Updates

This is the WEC 51 live blog for Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia, a bantamweight bout on tonight's Versus card from the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo.

For this camp, former WEC bantamweight champion Torres began training with GSP-trainer Firas Zahabi of the Tristar Gym in Canada.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Torres has a six-inch height advantage over Valencia, and a huge reach advantage as well. Torres takes the center of the cage early as Valencia circles around the outside. Torres lands a hard jab two minutes into the slow-starting bout. Torres attacks midway through the round and lands some strikes before bull-rushing Valencia into the cage. He lands a few knees to the body before they break. With about a minute left, an errant Torres kick landed low, necessitating a timeout. They restart, and Valencia lands a hard leg kick. Torres dropped Valencia late in the round with a straight right, and landed some hard ground and pound, but Valencia covered up and made it to the final horn. Torres takes the round, 10-9.

Round 2: Valencia tried a takedown early. Torres connected with a high kick and Valencia fell backwards. Torres looked for the finish but let him up, then landed a knee that put Valencia down again. He took Valencia's back, locked in the body triangle and looked for the rear naked choke. Midway through the round he locked it in and Valencia struggled for a few seconds before tapping.

Winner: Miguel Torres via rear naked choke submission, Rd. 2 (2:25)
