UFC 119 Live Blog: Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham Updates

INDIANAPOLIS -- This is the UFC 119 live blog for Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham , a lightweight bout on tonight's UFC pay-per-view from the Conseco Field House.

Former UFC lightweight champ Sherk returns after 15 months away due to injuries -- pulling out of fights on three separate occasions -- to face one of the UFC's brightest stars in Dunham.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Vintage Sherk, felt Dunham out with a little boxing, ducked under for the double leg takedown. Dunham tried a guillotine but couldn't quite cinch it in. Sherk pulled out and into Dunham's half-guard. Dunham used the fence to get up a minute later. They stayed against the fence and Sherk locked his hands and gave Dunham another ride to the canvas. Dunham rebounded to his feet again. Sherk went for another takedown, Dunham locked in a power guillotine. Sherk escaped but Dunham took his back. Sherk got free and on top. Sherk bloodied Dunham with an elbow. The ref called timeout to check the cut, but it was no issue and action continued. MMA Fighting scores the round for Sherk, 10-9.

Round 2: Sherk dives in for an early takedown, Dunham sprawls. Moments later he's back in again. Sherk against the fence and Dunham tries another guillotine as they fall to the mat. Sherk breaks free and they're back to their feet. For a few fights, Sherk abandoned his wrestling; he's back to it again. He gets a single leg takedown, and Dunham is surviving, but playing defense for most of the rounds so far. Dunham's offense opens up after he stuff another takedown with a knee. He scores with a left and gets the best of an exchange against the fence. Thirty seconds left and Dunham scores with a pair of knees, then another as the round expires. He made the round a toss-up at the end. MMA Fighting scores it for Dunham 10-9.

Round 3: A right hook floored Sherk in the opening seconds of the round. Sherk went for the takedown against the fence. Dunham kept an underhook in to defend. Sherk tried to complete the takedown. Dunham fed him some elbows as Sherk got him down. Dunham was on his back for all of five seconds and back to his feet. Sherk went for the high-crotch takedown as we neared the midway point. Dunham threw him off. They reset. Still anyone's fight. Dunham's left down the pipe landed. Sherk shot in again. Dunham slammed him with a knee to the face. Dunham backed him up against the fence as Sherk tired. Dunham hit him with two straight knees to the body. Sherk visibly winced. Both men were going on empty but put whatever remaining steam they had on their punches in a flurry as the round ended. MMA Fighting scores it for Dunham 10-9.

Winner: Sean Sherk via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
