WEC 52 Confirmed for The Pearl in Las Vegas; Faber vs. Mizugaki in Main Event

Urijah Faber's planned next march to the top will begin in Las Vegas.

November 11's WEC 52 card -- featuring Faber's WEC bantamweight debut -- will take place at The Pearl at The Palms, WEC general manager Reed Harris confirmed to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.

The event had been rumored for other locations in the past, including Arco Arena in Faber's hometown of Sacramento, a city that has drawn large numbers for the company in the past. Meanwhile, the WEC at one time also explored the option of taking the show east and running the event at the Mohegun Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

In the end, though, the organization chose to run its fourth event in its home state Nevada location during the last calendar year.

Almost seven months after losing a featherweight championship match against Jose Aldo, Faber will see action in the WEC 52 main event, taking on Takeya Mizugaki. The match will mark Faber's move down to 135 pounds, a division in which he has yet to see action in the WEC. He last competed as a bantamweight while fighting in a regional promotion in 2006, but has spent his entire WEC run in the featherweight division.

Faber had a lengthy run as the division's champion before being dethroned by Mike Brown. Since then, Faber has lost in two tries to regain the 145-pound belt, fueling a move to the lower weight class. He and Mizugaki had originally been scheduled to square off at WEC 50 before Faber was forced to withdraw with an undisclosed injury.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event, former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles will return for the first time after losing the crown to Dominick Cruz, when he takes on Wagnney Fabiano.

The event, which will be televised by Versus, is likely to be officially announced by the promotion imminently.
