Freddie Roach: Working With Georges St. Pierre 'An Honor to Me'

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has been spending time working out with Manny Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, and in Roach's comments about St. Pierre, he showed once again that he's one of the few old-school boxing guys who actually respects mixed martial arts, praising St. Pierre as an athlete and even hinting that he might make an appearance on The Ultimate Fighter.

"He's a great guy," Roach said of St. Pierre in an interview with Fight Hub TV. "Working with one of the best guys in the sport, its kind of an honor to me to help guys like that out."

Roach said he was impressed with how quickly St. Pierre learned some of the fundamental boxing techniques they worked on together.

"He's like a sponge, he took in what I taught him and really practiced," Roach said. "He'd come back the next day and know the move, I'd say, 'You practiced that move all night long' and he would smile at me. Very, very good student, great guy."

St. Pierre will serve as a coach on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, and Roach said St. Pierre had approached him about visiting the set.

"He asked me about making an appearance on the show coming up, he's a coach," Roach said. "I told him, 'I won't show them what I showed you.'"

Even if Roach saves his best boxing tips for his highest-profile clients, any instruction he can give the up-and-comers on The Ultimate Fighter would represent some of the best striking instruction any young combat sports athlete can get. St. Pierre could tell them that first hand.
