Dream 15 wasn't the only mixed martial arts event to take place half a world away while most American MMA fans were still sleeping early Saturday morning: Impact Fighting Championships held its inaugural event in Brisbane, Australia, and the winning fighters included UFC veterans Josh Barnett, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Karo Parisyan and Jeff Monson.
Full results are below.
Josh Barnett beat Geronimo dos Santos by first-round TKO (punches)
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou beat Joaquim Ferreira by first-round TKO (punches)
Karo Parisyan beat Ben Mortimer by second-round submission (rear-naked choke)
Jeff Monson beat Ubiratan Lima Marinho by unanimous decision
Tom Waters beat Jacob Mahony by second-round TKO (punches)
Fabio Fernandes beat Api Hemara by first-round submission (rear-naked choke)
Thiago "Minu" Meller beat Jai Bradney by first-round submission (guillotine)
Brian Ebersole beat Carlos Newton by unanimous decision
The results come from Jordan Breen of Sherdog, who was on the scene in Australia and tweeted that the troubled Parisyan looked out of shape, that the 33-year-old Newton looks like he's done as a fighter, and that Sokodjou crushed Ferreira, while Barnett benefited from a quick but inevitable stoppage.
Impact FC will have another card next weekend, featuring fights including Ken Shamrock vs. Pedro Rizzo, Paul Daley vs. Daniel Acacio, Bob Sapp vs. Soa Palelei, Paulo Filho vs. Denis Kang, Murilo "Ninja" Rua vs. Jeremy May and Murilo Bustamante vs. Jesse Taylor.
