A few days ago I wrote that the trash talk between Ben Askren and Ryan Thomas heading into their fight was a little bit over the top. For an example of the polar opposite of the Askren-Thomas nonsense -- an example of two fighters showing respect and even affection for each other right before they fight -- watch this video of Tara LaRosa and Roxanne Modafferi.
LaRosa and Modafferi, who will fight Friday night on the Moosin pay-per-view card, are a couple of fighters who realize that athletes in MMA don't have to express hatred for each other to sell their bouts, any more than golfers do. Fans tune in to see the competition, not the hype.
In fact, if anything, when you watch this video and see LaRosa and Modafferi chat with each other, laugh with each other and give gifts to each other, you're probably going to want to see them fight even more. It's really impossible not to like these two women after you see this video.
It's also impossible not to like them when you see them fight. The Independent World MMA Rankings list LaRosa and Modaferri as the second- and third-best fighters in the world in their weight class.
