Matt Mitrione Recovering From Broken Foot Suffered in Kimbo Slice Win

UFC heavyweight rookie Matt Mitrione will be on the shelf for the next couple of months after breaking his foot in the early portion of his fight against Kimbo Slice at UFC 113.

Mitrione (2-0), a former NFL lineman, announced the news Monday on his Facebook page.

Luckily for Mitrione, though, he also wrote that he will not need surgery.
"First kick of the fight = broken left navicular (foot bone)," he wrote. "My intsep [sic] bounced off of Kimbo's head and it broke. Occupational hazard. Non surgical, just in a boot for a few months. I guess this means that Pat Barry cant kick the hell out of my legs getting ready for his Cro Cop fight. Shucks!"
The 31-year-old defeated Slice via TKO in Montreal. He has shown tremendous improvement since appearing on the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Rumors circulated following his victory that he would face Joey Beltran at UFC 117, but Mitrione told the Springfield, IL, State Journal-Register that no one from the UFC had approached him about fighting "The Mexecutioner."
"There was a rumor bouncing around I'm going to fight Joey Beltran at UFC 117, and the guy who started it e-mailed me to apologize. He said he had no idea it would pick up steam the way it did. There's no truth to that whatsoever," Mitrione said.
Mitrione's first official win came against Marcus Jones last December.
