One day after being crowned the Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion, Ulysses Gomez has been slotted into Bellator's bantamweight tournament beginning in August.
Bellator announced Thursday the addition of Gomez (6-1) to the 135-pound bracket alongside current confirmed participants Danny Tims and Mark Oshiro.
Gomez, who trains out of Cobra Kai in Las Vegas, comes from a grappling background and has five submission wins in MMA under his belt. On Wednesday, Gomez defeated Luis Gonzales by unanimous decision for the promotion's 125-pound belt in the main event of Tachi Palace Fights 4 in Lemoore, Calif.
At last year's UFC Fan Expo, Gomez competed in a grappling superfight against Rumina Sato, losing by armbar to the Shooto legend (video above).
