UFC 111: Ricardo Almeida Submits Matt Brown

Ricardo Almeida submits Matt BrownMatt Brown had to tap out when Ricardo Almeida sunk in a rear-naked choke in the second round of their fight Saturday night at UFC 111.

Almeida took Brown down in the first round but wasn't able to keep him down, and after Brown got up they clinched against the cage. As they usually do during clinches against the cage, the fans in attendance in New Jersey started to boo, and that led referee Dan Miragliotta to separate them. But they went right back against the cage as soon as they were separated, with Almeida controlling most of the way but not doing much damage.

In the second round Almeida again took Brown down and Brown again got back up, although this time Almeida forced Brown to eat a couple of elbows on the way back up. They were again separated while clinching against the cage, but right after that the fight got more interesting, as Almeida caught a Brown kick and drilled Brown with a strike, knocking Brown to the ground and opening a big cut on his forehead. On the ground Almeida locked in a body triangle, and at that point it was just a matter of time before Almeida finished Brown with a rear-naked choke.

"This is my house -- my home," said Almeida, who lives in New Jersey. "I'm not going to let him come in here and beat me."

Almeida improved his record to 12-3. Brown fell to 11-8.
