Thiago Alves Will Return to UFC After Minor Procedure

Thiago AlvesWhen news broke on Thursday that Thiago Alves had pulled out of UFC 111 because a CAT scan revealed an irregularity in an artery in his brain, many fans feared the worst. But Alves got good news at a medical checkup on Friday: He'll need only a minor outpatient procedure and will be able to fight again.

"I went and saw a specialist this morning who told me I need to have the minor procedure," Alves said, according to TMZ.com.

Alves indicated that he doesn't think the problem was caused inside the Octagon, and that he doesn't think it will keep him out of the gym more than a couple weeks. Alves' camp has already suggested that he could be back in just two weeks at UFC 112, although that's probably not realistic from a scheduling perspective.

But while it's too soon to say exactly when Alves will be able to return, all indications are that he got very good news and will be just fine.

Said UFC president Dana White who told us, "He'll be back ... it's all good."
