American Kickboxing Academy heavyweight Lavar Johnson, returning from having survived a surprise shooting, handed Hawaiian Lolohea Mahe the first loss of his career in the evening's main event.
"Just being able to overcome the gunshots, all this, with a tough opponent," Johnson said. "This feels good. This feels real good."
Johnson didn't looked great early on, as he was the one winded and was twice taken down. Johnson was able to threaten Mahe with a guillotine choke attempt in the first, but that may have also contributed to Johnson's early fatigue.
But by the second round, Mahe completely gassed after a failed takedown attempt and Johnson took advantage of what was basically a walking target. While Johnson was also running low on his gas tank, he had enough energy to pound out Mahe with giant right hands for the TKO victory.
