UFC 111: Jon Fitch vs. Ben Saunders

Hours after the news broke that Thiago Alves is out of his UFC 111 fight with Jon Fitch, Fitch posted on Twitter and Facebook that he will be fighting after all, and Ben Saunders -- who had been scheduled to fight Jake Ellenberger on the card -- tweeted that he has big news to be announced shortly.

So, by all appearances, Fitch vs. Saunders will be on Saturday night's pay-per-view card. UPDATE: UFC President Dana White confirmed the fight to TMZ.

The UFC had previously announced that Fitch was off the card and that no replacement for him would be found. But a Fitch vs. Saunders fight would make a lot of sense, a solid welterweight fight that won't be quite as big a deal as Fitch vs. Alves but should please everyone. At least, everyone except Ellenberger.

Alves, meanwhile, said on Twitter that he's hoping to be cleared by a doctor to fight soon after a CT scan revealed an irregularity with an artery in his brain.
