
Kongo and Buentello are both in need of a big win. Kongo has dropped two straight, while Buentello lost in his UFC return last December.

Round 1: Clap of hands for the glove touch. The two start off active, bouncing on their feet. Buentello throws a punch combo and Kongo clinches, pushing Buentello against the fence to work for the double-leg takedown. Buentello said before the fight that he's not expecting Kongo to stand and exchange. Guess, Buentello was right. Kongo succeeds with the takedown attempt. Buentello eventually works his way to the feet, but is taken right down. The fight is paused. Buentello appears to have broken his pinky finger. He's in pain, trying to pop it back in. The doctor enters and helps him. With his finger corrected, Buentello jumps out in excitement, and the fight is restarted. Wow, I think that's a first. Kongo hits cleanly with a left and right and drops down for the takedown. Kongo again succeeds with the double-leg, and we're back to Buentello working his way to his feet. Referee Herb Dean stands them up with 18 seconds left. Buentello slips and Kongo pounds away.

Round 2: Kongo throws leg kicks. Kongo clips Buentello. They trade against the fence before Kongo takes him down. Buentello stands up and Kongo puts him back down. Kongo controls Buentello's back to land punches. Kongo with knees to the body and then an illegal knee to the face while Buentello was standing up. Dean pauses the fight and deducts a point away from Kongo. Kongo uses punches to setup the takedown. Buentello falls and Kongo keeps him on the ground. More knees to the body from Kongo. Kongo with two uppercuts, and he's back for the double-leg. Kongo has the headlock on Buentello, who is on all fours. Kongo scores with rights. Buentello stands and Kongo hits him with knees. Kongo goes for the knee to the head and Buentello puts his hands on the ground in hopes of the illegal knee call. Dean is wise to it and warns Buentello. Kongo unloads on Buentello. Buentello looks really tired. The fight is restarted with 24 seconds left. Kongo lands a right. Buentello defends a takedown and they are in clinch. Round ends.

Round 3: Kongo goes straight for the takedown and gets it. Buentello on all fours. Kongo with knees to Buentello's left thigh. Buentello taps to the strikes to his thigh.
