MMA veteran Claude Patrick is a happy man these days because he recently signed a multi-fight agreement with the UFC.
The 11-1 Canadian told SiriusXM Fight Club Thursday that he is still unsure when and where he will make his debut, but believes UFC 115 on June 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia, is a possibility.
Patrick said that he would love to make his debut in his home country, but just getting to the UFC should be considered a major feat because in July 2008 he was injured after being tasered in a hotel room following a Freedom Fight event in Gatineau, Quebec.
Amazingly, Patrick still has no clue who assaulted him.
"I do not remember anything about that," he said, "and it's very true. Some people just think I am trying to stop talking about it, but now, I have a slight memory loss, well, complete memory loss for two days from that whole thing.
"I woke up with no injuries. I just had a tube in my throat because I was in the hospital, and I was like, 'Oh, damn, well, what do I drink now?'"
The one-time IFL fighter, who will compete in the UFC's lightweight division, remembers going to a hotel room to thank the television crew for giving him backstage access to the fight. However, he was greeted by stranger who immediately assaulted him.
According to reports, Patrick was tasered from behind and then put into a medically induced coma by doctors for two days.
"I think it was an induced coma so to speak because getting tasered messes up with your heart rhythm and all that stuff. I got tasered several times, I think they said. I got the medical reports, because I tried to figure out what happened, and it was in French in doctor's writing, chicken scratch. No chance you can ever decipher that. So I just kind of took it and ran with it."
Patrick didn't suffer any career-threatening injuries, and he returned to action six months later. He's 3-0 since the incident.
And while he has put the assault behind, Patrick still has no clue who attacked him and why.
"If I knew who it was, I wouldn't be on the phone with you guys now, man," he said jokingly.
"I have no clue, man. I don't remember anything."
