No one has more respect for Fedor Emelianenko than Randy Couture. For years, Couture has proclaimed Fedor the best fighter on the planet, and Couture's burning desire to test himself against Fedor was a big reason that he tried to leave the UFC in 2007.
So it's telling that Couture has now joined the growing number of people in the mixed martial arts community who are questioning what's going on with Fedor.
In an interview with MMAPrime.tv, Couture questioned why Fedor seems to be stalling in scheduling his next fight, which is supposed to come against Fabricio Werdum.
"I think at some point Fedor's going to have to step up and be willing to fight top-level guys again. I don't know what's going on with him or why he's not willing to do that, but certainly Werdum is one of those guys he's going to have to face. To be considered the top fighter, the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, he's going to have to face tougher opponents. So hopefully we'll see that fight happen."
Fedor is unquestionably the best fighter in the history of MMA, but he's running a real risk of tarnishing his legacy because there's always so much drama surrounding the scheduling of his fights. When Couture is calling him out, you know Fedor's reputation has taken a hit.
