Bisping: Wanderlei Needs to Beat Me to Revive His Career

Michael Bisping says something in the latest promotional video to hype his UFC 110 fight with Wanderlei Silva that I think everyone who follows the sport would have to agree with.

"I think he has to win this fight to revive his career," Bisping says of Silva.

Bisping then adds that he's confident it's not going to happen for Silva.

"Unfortunately, he's going to revive his career against me? It just ain't going to happen," Bisping says. "I'm the wrong man for the job."

Whether Silva can get his career back on track against Bisping is something we'll find out on February 20, but I don't think there's much question that Bisping is right: If Silva is ever going to revive his career, this has to be the fight when he does it.

Silva has lost five of his last six fights, and that might suggest that Silva's career is already past the point where it can be revived. But all five of those losses were against some of the all-time great fighters in MMA history: Mirko Cro Cop, Dan Henderson, Chuck Liddell, Rampage Jackson and Rich Franklin. Silva obviously isn't happy with his recent record, but there's no shame in losing to any of those guys.

Bisping, however, isn't in the same class. Bisping is a guy the Axe Murderer of old would have wiped the canvas with, and if Silva can't beat him now, it's safe to say we're never going to see that Axe Murderer of old again.

"I need this victory," Silva says. He's right about that.
