UFC 109 Live Blog: Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller Round-by-Round Updates

This is the UFC 109 live blog for Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller, a middleweight bout on tonight's pay-per-view card.

Submission specialist Maia will test Miller's recent Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt promotion in a fight where both fighters are looking to avoid back-to-back losses.

The live blog begins below.

Round 1: Touch of gloves. Miller comes out with a jab and cross. Misses. Miller lands a leg kick. Miller throws to the body and Maia avoids. They land shots up close. Maia shoots at 3:50. Maia throws knees as he tries to control Miller for the takedown. Miller escapes. Maia's high kick is blocked. Miller lands an inside leg kick. Maia with a kick and shoots. Maia takes Miller down. Miller scrambles up and takes a knee. Miller grabs his groin in pain. He takes a break. Replays showed that Maia accidentally knees him below the belt. Restart at 1:55. Miller taps an inside leg kick. Maia briefly trips Miller on the ground. Round could have gone either way.

Round 2: Miller to the body. Maia lands counter punches. Miller lands a left hook. Maia hits with a left. Maia lands another left. Maia counters with a right. Miller taps two leg kicks, and goes back to a body punch. The crowd boos with a minute left. Maia lands left hands. Miller was never in danger but Maia was able to score with punches.

Round 3: Maia either shot in or was knocked down. He pulls guard. They are back up and Maia takes him down. Miller uses to cage to escape to his feet. Maia shoots and Miller defends. Maia tries again and puts Miller on his butt. Maia throws right hands in Miller's halfguard. Miller with a half butterfly guard and then butterfly guard. They trade punches with Maia inside Miller's closed guard.

The judges score it 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 for Maia.
