Announced late Thursday by Sylvia on his Twitter, Sims confirmed the fight on an appearance Friday afternoon on Talking Sports radio with Randy Harris.
Back in December 2004, Sylvia stopped Sims in 92 seconds at SuperBrawl 38 in Hawaii. The encounter was Sylvia's first fight back after having his arm broken in a loss against Frank Mir for the UFC heavyweight belt.
This past September, Sylvia scored a TKO win against Jason Riley at Adrenaline MMA 4 to end a three-fight losing steak.
Sims was last seen on The Ultimate Fighter 10 losing in the elimination round to Justin Wren by first-round submission. Fights taped for the show are considered exhibition bouts and don't count towards his official record. He'll enter Sylvia on a three-fight win streak in 2008 with the Indiana-based Full Contact Fight Series promotion, but before he faces Sylvia, Sims will accept a short notice fight against Lashley at Strikeforce: Miami on Jan. 30.
