But since the demise of Affliction Entertainment last summer, Atencio has kept a very low profile. That is until he recently resurfaced as a on camera host for Affliction's online videos.
Atencio was recently featured in videos with Georges St-Pierre and Wanderlei Silva:
I spoke to the 43-year-old recently, who still works behind the scenes for Affliction, and asked if he missed promoting MMA:
"Of course I do -- it was great. There's nothing like being in the forefront, and I don't care what anybody says, when people recognize you, it's a great feeling. When people know what you do and follow you, it's a great feeling. They still do, it's just not as obvious, I guess you can say. It was a great ride, and I couldn't have asked for a better situation."
As for building on his 2-0 fighting career, Atencio all but said his days of competing in MMA were over.
"[I'm] probably not [going to fight again], to be honest," he said. "But you never know. I mean, I love this industry, I love this sport. I had nothing to prove -- I did it just for myself."
Well, from the looks of his recent training video with Silva, it seems like Atencio hasn't fully gotten the fighting bug out of his system.
