If you're the kind of MMA fan who buys a pay-per-view every six months or so, UFC 107 on Saturday night is the one you should buy.
The five fights on the pay-per-view represent the best collection of fights the UFC has had on any card since the summer, when the great back-to-back cards of UFC 100 and UFC 101 had fans spoiled. Here are the five fights you'll get if you plunk down $50:
BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez
Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo
Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
Jon Fitch vs. Mike Pierce
Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve
That's a title fight in the main event, a couple of interesting heavyweight match-ups, a lightweight bout featuring two fan favorites and a fight featuring the No. 2 welterweight in the world. Not bad at all.
Unfortunately, since UFC 101 the UFC has had a number of fairly weak pay-per-view cards, and it has a number of fairly weak pay-per-view cards coming up -- UFC 108, UFC 109 and UFC 110 are all lacking.
The bottom line is that in the six-month period from September through February, UFC 107 is the best card we're going to get. If you're an occasional pay-per-view buyer, this is the one you should buy.
