In another win for one of the top lightweights in the UFC, Frank Edgar beat Matt Veach by second-round submission Saturday night at the Ultimate Fighter Finale in Las Vegas.
Veach landed three huge takedowns in the early portion of the first round, showing off his wrestling base and picking Edgar up and slamming him to the ground. The problem was that Veach didn't do much once he got Edgar onto the ground. And when Edgar would get back to his feet, he'd show off crisper, more accurate striking.
In the second round Edgar showed off that accurate striking, landing a perfect punch to Veach's chin and knocking him to the ground. After several more punches on the ground, Edgar took Veach's back and submitted him with a rear-naked choke.
Edgar improved his record to 11-1, and he looks like he could be just a win or two away from getting a lightweight title shot. The previously undefeated Veach falls to 11-1.
