Strikeforce Undercard Live Blog: Miller vs. Davis, Curran vs. Neace, More

HOFFMAN ESTATES, ILL. -- This is the Strikeforce live blog for the first five preliminary bouts on the Fedor vs. Rogers card featuring welterweights Mark Miller vs. Deray Davis, John Kolosci vs. Shamar Bailey, bantamweights Jeff Curran vs. Dustin Neace, lightweights Christian Uflacker vs. Jonatas Novaes and middleweights Louis Taylor vs. Nate Moore.

The first bout is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM ET. The live blog begins below.



Mark Miller vs. Deray Davis (Canceled)

Marloes Coenen vs. Roxanne Modafferi skipped ahead due to time constraints.

Round 1:

Jeff Curran vs. Dustin Neace

Round 1: Curran opens by throwing a kick towards Neace's thigh, followed by a side kick. Curran connects on a kick. Curran tries the side kick again. Curran taps a kick to the inside of Neace's leg. Curran glances with a left hook. Curran goes back to work on Neace's legs. Neace tries a spinning backkick. Neace tries another kick that causes Curran to back away. They clinch. Curran looks for the bodylock trip. Neace taps. It appears Neace injured his ribs.

Curran wins via TKO (injury) - R1, 1:39

John Kolosci vs. Shamar Bailey

Round 1: Bailey puts Kolosci down. Kolosci works from one single butterfly hook. Kolosci stands and Bailey puts him right back down in side control. Kolosci gets to his feet but gets caught in a guillotine. Kolosci pops his head out and Bailey immediately lowers his level for the shot. Kolosci returns the favor with a guillotine choke. Bailey escapes and pulls guard with a guillotine. Kolosci escapes his head. Bailey is on his knees and Kolosci controls his head. Bailey backs away and shoots. Kolosci throws knees but gets taken down. Bailey climbs from halfguard to full mount. Kolosci escapes to his feet. Kolosci with punches to Bailey's thigh. Kolosci has over-under and throws knees. He throws consecutive left-right punches and Bailey takes him down with just over ten seconds left.

Round 2: Kolosci misses on a high kick. Bailey shoots for the double and puts Kolosci down. Kolosci grabs a guillotine but it's not tight. Bailey stands up and Kolosci tries the guillotine again, as Taylor works to put Kolosci on his back. Kolosci shoots and Bailey reverses him into side control. Kolosci escapes to halfguard. Kolosci turns into Bailey and they are back to their feet. Kolosci with knees to the body. Bailey returns and shoots for the double-leg. Bailey finishes the takedown with Kolosci sitting against the fence. Bailey lands a strike on a downed opponent and Bailey loses a point. Bailey rushes into clinch. Round two ends with Kolosci holding double underhooks.

Round 3: Bailey goes immediately for the takedown. Kolosci defends and scores points with hammerfists. Taylor gets the big takedown into Kolosci's closed guard. They separate. Bailey takes him down with a single-leg. Kolosci stands and Taylor eventually finishes with the double. Kolosci pulls half guard. Kolosci stands the fight up in clinch. They briefly separate before Bailey shoots for the double and takes Kolosci down. Kolosci has a headlock for defense and uses it to stand up. Bailey takes him down to close the fight.

Bailey wins via unanimous decision

Louis Taylor vs. Nate Moore

Round 1: Both are tentative to start. Taylor throws a left hook that misses. Moore reaches foward with punches and Taylor clinches Moore against the cage. Taylor separates with punches. Taylor goes right back to clinch. Taylor is warned for a violation (grabbing shorts?). Moore shoots and Taylor defends. Taylor throws a kick and Moore shoots again, this time putting Taylor on his back into halfguard. Taylor turns into Moore, they scramble and Moore takes Taylor's back. Taylor stands and Moore hops in a hook.

Round 2: Taylor knees. Moore launches a combination of fast punches. Moore tries again and Taylor clinches. Taylor is deducted a point. Taylor lands a clean kick to the body. Moore throws a punch combo and slips. Moore shoots and Taylor defends. Moore switches to a single and swings around to take Taylor's back. Moore sinks in two hooks and flattens Taylor. Moore drops punches to set up a choke. Moore continues with punches and Taylor taps.

Moore def. Taylor by submission (punches) - R2, 3:24

Christian Uflacker vs. Jonatas Novaes

Round 1: Uflacker controls in top position. The referee stands them up. Novaes kicks and Uflacker shoots and take him down into halfguard.

Round 2: Novaes lands leg kick and Uflacker shoots for the double-leg. Novaes defends and puts Uflacker down. Uflacker works off his back from full guard. Novaes stands and connects on leg kicks at Uflacker, who stays on his back. The referee stands them up. Novaes throws a combo but Uflacker once again avoids it to put the fight on the ground. Uflacker passes to half guard. Novaes hips out for a possible armbar attempt, but Uflacker keeps Novaes at halfguard. Minimal punches from Uflacker.

Round 3: Noaves lands leg kicks. Uflacker shoots for the double and finishes it. Uflacker passes to Novaes' halfguard. Noaves, off his back, illegally kicks the head of Uflacker several times. The referee separates them. Uflacker holds his head in pain. Uflacker is attended to by doctors and officials. Uflacker gets to his feet but looks weary from those illegal shots. Novaes is deducted two points. The fight is restarted with 3:55 left. Uflacker scores the takedown and fights off Novaes' halfguard. Noaves hips out for another potential armbar attempt, but Uflacker doesn't let him. Novaes tries again. Novaes looks for a kimura. None of these attempts are close but he's obviously working. Fight restarted on feet. Uflacker takes him down. Novaes escapes from half gurard to closed guard with 30 seconds left.
