Grandma Prepares for MMA Debut

DeEtta Petersen is a 49-year-old grandmother in Walla Walla, Washington, who has a somewhat unusual item on the list of things she wants to do before she turns 50: Be in an MMA fight. Video below.

"It's just one of those things I want to do. I want to get one fight and get my black belt," Petersen tells KEPR TV. "Originally I brought my son and he was going up through the youth ranks. ... It's just one of those things that just intrigues you and draws you in and so I think by the fourth fight I was like, 'I want to try that'."

Petersen was supposed to have a fight last week, but her opponent dropped out with an injury. Now she's hoping to get an opponent who will actually show up at the next local MMA show, which is in a few months.

Petersen says her goal is to inspire other middle-aged women to give the sport a try. I hope she succeeds. MMA isn't just for young men.
