This is the UFC 102 live blog for Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt, a middleweight bout on the pay-per-view card. It's puncher versus wrester when Leben, whose eight of his last 12 wins have come via (T)KO, returns from a steroids suspension against three-time NCAA wrestling champ Rosholt.
The live blog is below.
Round 1: Leben circles to his right. Rosholt lands first with a leg kick. Leben swings and misses a high kick. Rosholt lands another inside leg kick. Leben lands one too. Leben almost slips on a kick. They exchange glancing leg kicks. Rosholt with a one-two punch combo and throws a jumping knee that Leben catches, putting Rosholt down into closed guard. Rosholt gets to his feet and launches a roundhouse kick that gets blocked. Leben is bleeding from his nose. Rosholt get double underhooks and finishes the takedown into mount. Leben gives up his back and then sits. Rosholt with punches and a knee before allowing Leben to recompose. Leben chases Rosholt wildly with punches and Rosholt smiles. Leben again charges and Rosholt steps away. 10-9 Rosholt
Round 2: Rosholt with a punch combo and Leben responds with a left that puts Rosholt down. Leben scores points with punches to the body while in Rosholt's closed guard. The referee stands them up for lack of action. Leben loads up on his left and misses. Leben taps a leg kick and Rosholt answers with a loud kick. Leben adds a kick as they circle together. Leben throws a head kick that Rosholt blocks. Leben stomps on Rosholt's toes in clinch. They separate and Rosholt throws punches before scoring the takedown. Rosholt on top in Leben's halfguard. Rosholt drops punches and hammerfists before allowing the fight back to the feet. Leben looks for the finish and Rosholt wisely wraps his hands around Leben's neck to end the round in clinch. 10-9 Leben
Round 3: Rosholt gets the takedown right into Leben's halfguard. Rosholt momentarily secures full mount. Rosholt tries to take Leben's back, and then switches to an head-arm choke. Leben is out.
Leben tried to tap, but it appeared referee did not find it convincing enough. Leben, though, stood up to address the crowd to let them know he was okay.
