Lashley Set for September Return

Following his first-round TKO victory over Bob Sapp Saturday night, Bobby Lashley said he would like to fight two more times this year. He wasn't kidding.

FanHouse has learned that the now 4-0 MMA rookie has agreed to fight again for Prize Fight MMA, one of the promoters of last night's "Ultimate Chaos" event, in September. No official date, location or opponent has been agreed upon, but September 26 appears to be likely.

As I mentioned several times throughout our live blog Saturday, I think Lashley would be a perfect fit for Strikeforce's growing stable of heavyweights. He is a proven draw and would help bring some extra attention to the organization.

I also think he can hang with some lower-level UFC fighters right now, but Lashley is making the right decision by picking up as much cage/ring time as possible, not to mention wins, before taking his career to the next level.

Was his fight against Bob Sapp lackluster? Absolutely. But credit Lashley and his American Top Team camp for deciding to take Sapp down right away and expose his weaknesses on the ground. Sapp openly said before the fight that he was looking to rush Lashley and knock him out, but he was never given a chance to do so.

"Going up against Bob," Lashley said after the fight, "you always expect the big bulls. I had to take him down, cover and pound. The first thing is to win: ground-and-pound to wear the big man down. He has a big punch. I used my ground-and-pound and got out of there."

At this point, while his opponents may not be the best in the business, all you can ask of Lashley is to win, and he is doing just that. Consider me impressed with the former WWE star.
