Above is the promotional video for the Super Hulk Tournament, the bizarre eight-man Japanese MMA competition that will feature Jose Canseco taking on the 7-foot-2 Hong Man Choi.
The tournament begins at Dream 9 on May 26, and if you enjoy that kind of thing, you'll be able to watch live in the United States on HDNet. The other fights in the first round of the Super Hulk Tournament are Bob Sapp vs. Ikuhisa Minowa, Jan Nortje vs. Sokoudjou and Gegard Mousasi vs. Mark Hunt. The four winners will advance to the next round (most likely in August) and the Super Hulk Champion will be crowned in the final, probably on New Year's Eve.
To the extent that this tournament will get any mainstream attention in the United States, it will be because of the presence of Canseco, who couldn't even beat Danny Bonaduce in a boxing match and certainly can't beat Choi in an MMA competition. But Dream.9 actually has some legitimate MMA fights on the card as well. It's a strange thing about MMA in Japan that the fans seem to crave freak shows mixed into their MMA, but that's what a lot of Japanese fans want, and that's what they'll get with the Super Hulk Tournament.
