Happy Birthday: Shooto celebrates 20 years

If you're a die-hard fan of Japanese mixed martial arts, you'll want to pay close attention to a particular event on Sunday at the JCB Hall in Tokyo.

No, it's not a DREAM or a Sengoku card, but fighters from those "big two" Japanese promotions in Japan will be active, at the 20th anniversary Shooto event, "Shooto Tradition Final."

Former PRIDE champion Takanori Gomi (29-5), Shooto welterweight champion Takashi Nakakura (11-2-1), Shooto lightweight champ Takeshi "Lion" Inoue (15-3), Japanese legend Rumina Sato (24-13-2), Cage Force lightweight champ Mizuto Hirota, undefeated submission specialist Megumi Fuji (16-0) are among the headliner-worthy names on the card.

The Inoue-Sato fight is for the Shooto lightweight belt and Inoue is defending the strap for the first time since reclaiming it last November against Hideki Kadowaki.

Gomi's return to Shooto is an important one. The slumping fighter hinted at possible retirement if he loses to Nakakura, a current titleholder on a five-fight win streak.

Tickets for this event have been sold out.

UPDATE: Zon Yon Ze has bowed out due to injury.
