UFC 102: Keith Jardine-Thiago Silva Part of Big UFC Summer

It's going to be a huge summer for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

We've known for some time that the July 11 UFC 100 card is going to be among the biggest UFC events in history, and on Tuesday we learned that Anderson Silva will fight Forrest Griffin in a huge match-up at UFC 101. Now comes word, first reported by MMA Junkie, that UFC 102 has added a light heavyweight fight between Keith Jardine and Thiago Silva.

I consider Jardine-Silva a very good fight. Jardine, coming off a loss to Rampage Jackson in the main event at UFC 96, is one of the top 10 light heavyweights in MMA. Silva, coming off a loss to Lyoto Machida in the co-main event at UFC 94, isn't far from being in the top 10. These are two very talented fighters, and I think their match-up, stylistically, is likely to make for an exciting fight.

The announcement that Griffin will fight Anderson Silva has fans thrilled, and it shows how much talent the UFC has and how good the UFC is at matchmaking. But I think the Jardine-Thiago Silva match-up shows that, too. The UFC has most of the top MMA fighters in the world, and it doesn't protect those fighters by giving them easy fights.

Here are the main events and co-main events for the UFC's three big summer shows:

UFC 100: Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, Georges St Pierre vs. Thiago Alves

UFC 101: B.J. Penn vs. Kenny Florian, Forrest Griffin vs. Anderson Silva

UFC 102: Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva

This summer will be a great time to be a UFC fan.
