UFC Tweaks Fedor Emelianenko on April Fool's Day

If you go to UFC.com right now, you'll see a headline that says, "UFC Greenlights Construction of Russian Stadium." And if you know the history of the UFC's negotiations with Fedor Emelianenko -- and you forget that today is April 1 -- you're going to be very excited about the possibility that the construction of a Russian stadium will finally get Fedor into the Octagon.

For those who don't know the background, the UFC has negotiated with Fedor about trying to get him into the Octagon, and has offered him a significant amount of money to get a deal done. But the negotiations have always broken down over issues other than Fedor's salary. One of those issues, according to the UFC, is the desire on the part of Fedor's management to have the UFC pay for the construction of an arena in Russia.

So, if that headline were actually true, it would mean that the UFC had given into the demands of Fedor's management, and that Fedor was about to fight in the UFC. But it's April Fool's Day. So if you want to know how Fedor would do against UFC competition, you'll have to play along with silly imaginary MMA tournaments.
