Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Max Fernandez won the HEAT welterweight title on Saturday by winning the welterweight tournament final at HEAT 9 in Nagoya.
It was business as usual for Fernandez, who submitted Justin Holdaas (2-2) by armbar one-minute into the fight. Fernandez out of Extreme Barbosa in Brazil, is now 4-0 with four wins via submission, three of which are armbars.
In the card's other tournament final, Fabiakato Lukafa won the middleweight kickboxing belt by unanimously outpointing Kinji.
In semifinal bouts, PRIDE veteran Henry "Sentoryu" Miller knocked out Ryuta Noji at 1:14 of the first round, and the Japanese-Brazilian Christiano Kaminishi won a unanimous decision over Sang Soo Lee. Kaminishi, who represents the AXIS Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Japan, prepared for this fight at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida.
