Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Shields at Strikeforce in May

The final EliteXC welterweight and middleweight champions will fight each other at a Strikeforce event on Showtime in May.

Robbie Lawler, the final 185-pound champ, and Jake Shields, the final 170-pound champ, are set to meet in a headlining bout under a catchweight of 182 pounds.

"I might be bigger, but it sure doesn't look it when we stand side by side," Lawler said. "This will be my first fight since July but I'm always in the gym and I stay in shape. So I'll be 100 percent.'"

"I am super excited about this fight and this opportunity," Shields said. "I've always wanted to fight the top level guys. That's not to say the guys I've fought recently weren't good fighters because they were.

"But Lawler is a high-profile fighter, a top-five middleweight. So this is a real challenge for me and a fight that has me highly motivated."

A specific date and venue are to be announced.

Other fighters for the card are Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante, Joey Villasenor and Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos.
