Shane Carwin a candidate to fight Lesnar-Mir winner

Shane Carwin could be the next to challenge the winner of Brock Lesnar-Frank Mir for the UFC title if he gets pass Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 96 on Saturday.

Entering his third fight it might be early for Carwin to receive a title shot, but UFC president Dana White said on Thursday that it's a possibility.

"I don't know," White said. "If he beats Gabe Gonzaga, that's huge, he's undefeated. Yeah, definitely."

Carwin (10-0) needed only a combined time of 2 minutes and 15 seconds to (T)KO his two UFC opponents Neil Wain and Christian Wellisch.

Other heavyweight newcomers climbing the ranks with Carwin are Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.

"I think there's a lot of talented guys up and coming in the heavyweight division right now," White said. "It's almost like our 205-pound division. I never thought I'd say that, but it's exciting. There are a lot of different things we can do in the heavyweight division."
