That's the month Akiyama has told the UFC he'd be ready by. The pay-per-view event for August would be UFC 101 in Portland, Oregon, which could also see Randy Couture take on Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Both former champions have agreed to fight each other but the fight has not been inked.
Akiyama also revealed that his contract with the UFC is for six fights.
Akiyama first considered UFC an option this past December and arrived at the decision to fight in the US in January.
Akiyama left DREAM when his contract expired in November. And when the judoka couldn't reach an agreement to fight at "Dynamite!! 2008" on New Year's Eve, he used the downtime to reaccess his career.
