MMA Top 10 Heavyweights: Fedor Emelianenko Towers Over the Rest

I don't agree with those who say the UFC has a weak heavyweight division. From the upcoming title fight between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar at UFC 98, to possible future contenders like Gabriel Gonzaga, Cheick Kongo, Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos, to all-time greats like Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, there's plenty of heavyweight talent in the UFC.

But Fedor Emelianenko is the best heavyweight in mixed martial arts, and there's not a close second. Fedor's two dominant performances under the Affliction banner, when he's needed less than four minutes, total, to beat Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski, show that he towers over the rest.

Some day I hope we'll see Fedor in the UFC. For now, even though my list of the top 10 heavyweights in MMA has six UFC fighters on it, the UFC's solid heavyweight division is defined mostly by the guy who's not in it.

My heavyweight rankings are below.

Top 10 Heavyweights in MMA
1. Fedor Emelianenko
2. Frank Mir
3. Andrei Arlovski
4. Josh Barnett
5. Brock Lesnar
6. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
7. Randy Couture
8. Gabriel Gonzaga
9. Alistair Overeem
10. Cheick Kongo
