Frank Shamrock-Nick Diaz at Strikeforce on April 11

Frank Shamrock announced today that he will fight Nick Diaz in the main event of the Strikeforce card on Showtime on April 11.

Shamrock and Diaz will compete at a catchweight of 179 pounds since Shamrock is a middleweight and Diaz plans to return to welterweight.

It's an odd pairing when it comes to weight classes, but the two fighters' outspoken nature and fighting style has the makings of a blockbuster main event for Strikeforce's debut on Showtime.

Adding to that, there's a background story from Shamrock's come-out-of-retirement fight in 2006, when he knocked out Diaz's manager and trainer Cesar Gracie in 21 seconds. That would be Gracie's first and only MMA fight.

Strikeforce also confirmed today a middleweight bout between Benji Radach and Scott Smith.

Gilbert Melendez will fight on the card but his opponent has not been signed. His possible opponents include Jorge Gurgel and Mitsuhiro Ishida, whom Melendez lost his first career fight to.

Strikeforce is in talks with Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson and EliteXC champion KJ Noons for a championship unification bout.

Strikeforce founder Scott Coker revealed that Cung Le would have competed on the April 11 but is currently nursing an elbow injury.
