Strikeforce Says It Has Kimbo, Carano; Frank Shamrock to Headline in April

As Strikeforce dots the i's and crosses the t's on its agreement to purchase EliteXC, the company's owner says the deal includes the contracts of big-name EliteXC fighters Kimbo Slice, Gina Carano, Nick Diaz, Eddie Alvarez, Robbie Lawler and Jake Shields.

The fighters themselves haven't confirmed that they're going to fight for Strikeforce, which means everything we hear from Strikeforce has to be taken with a grain of salt. But promoter Scott Coker told Dave Meltzer that the deal includes all the big-name fighters' contracts, and he also said the next Strikeforce show will take place on April 11 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, with Frank Shamrock in the main event.

But there are more questions than answers about the April 11 show. Shamrock's opponent hasn't been named yet, and it's not clear whether any of those big names mentioned above will be involved. It's also not clear which TV network will show the April 11 card, but Showtime appears to be the best bet. Fights that are likely to be part of the April 11 undercard include Scott Smith vs. Benji Radach and Josh Thomson vs. K.J. Noons.

Overall, Strikeforce buying EliteXC's assets should be a good thing for mixed martial arts fans. The UFC is the undisputed champion of MMA, but it will be great to have a well-run company in the No. 2 spot.
