Jens Pulver to host benefit for Justin Eilers' son

Former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver will be in Boise this Friday, January 2, to host an event to benefit the newly formed Tyson Eilers Foundation. Tyson is the son of former UFC and Idaho MMA star Justin Eilers, who was tragically killed last week in Nampa, Idaho.

Friday's event was originally scheduled to serve as a fundraiser for a team of Idaho fighters set to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada in coming weeks to compete in an important MMA event at Planet Hollywood. However, with the news of Justin's death, the scheduled fundraiser has taken on a greater purpose, especially for Pulver, a former UFC Champion. While Pulver started his MMA training here in Boise, Justin later joined him in Iowa where they became training partners, roommates, and dear friends.

"I have lost a brother, Pulver said. "No matter where Justin went or who he talked to, he never forgot where he came from, and I want people to know those stories."

Friday's event will celebrate Justin's life while also raising awareness and money for the Tyson Eilers Foundation, an entity set up to benefit Justin's seven year old son. The event will also promote the team of Idaho fighters, who have vowed to compete in Justin's honor, traveling to Las Vegas on January 10th.

"The guys traveling to compete in Las Vegas represent what Justin Eilers stood for --- hard work, a passion to compete, and the ability to look past the bullshit," Idaho MMA promoter and manager Erwin Swetnam said.

Friday's event will be held at Shorty's Saloon in Boise and is open to everyone, especially those affected by Justin's death. It will follow a benefit dinner/auction held at Rocky Mountain Fitness from 6pm to 9pm. Those who attend will get a chance to meet several MMA fighters, including Pulver, Robbie Lawler, Tony Fryklund, and MMA super-agent Monte Cox. All will be on hand to take pictures with fans, sign autographs and tell stories about their friend Justin Eilers.
