Silva and Jackson fought twice in Japan; Silva beat Jackson with a first-round TKO in 2003 and by second-round knockout in 2004. But this time Jackson got his revenge. It was an intense yet slow-paced first round for the first three minutes, and then Rampage suddenly and devastatingly landed a left hand that knocked Silva out cold.
Rampage made a strong case with the win that he deserves to fight for the UFC light heavyweight title against the winner of tonight's Forrest Griffin-Rashad Evans main event. But Rampage wouldn't lobby for that fight, saying afterward that he would fight whoever the UFC put in front of him.
Jackson improves his record to 29-7. Silva falls to 32-9-1.
