As soon as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira took his shirt off at the UFC 92 weigh in, I thought he looked a little thicker than usual:
Sure enough, Nogueira tipped the scales at 246 pounds, which is heavier than he's been in the past. In his last fight, against Tim Sylvia at UFC 81, he weighed 237. In his previous fight, against Heath Herring at UFC 73, he weighed 240.5.
Nogueira's opponent tonight, Frank Mir, is a little lighter than usual. He weighed 251 yesterday, compared to 255 when he fought Brock Lesnar at UFC 81, 255 when he fought Antoni Hardonk at UFC 74 and 254 when he fought Brandon Vera at UFC 65.
What does it all mean? I'm not sure. I think everyone expected more than a five-pound weight differential, and I think that if you base your betting on what you see at the weigh-in, you'd probably put a little money on Mir to pull the upset. With most sports books listing a $100 bet on Mir paying off at a little more than $300, he's not looking like a bad bet right now.
