Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites at UFC 97

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva wil defend his belt next against Thales Leites on April 18 at UFC 97 in Montreal, Canada.

Leites confirmed the signing of the fight to Denis Martins of intheguard.tv.

Silva (23-4) has won all eight of his fights with the UFC, four of which were title defenses. Silva was dominant in his last win against Patrick Cote on Oct. 25, but was criticized for taking Cote too lightly. Also, the fight was deemed a disaster when Silva didn't win by strikes, but due to Cote suffering a knee injury in the third round. It was the first three-round Silva fight in the UFC, but Silva commented afterwards that it was his gameplan to finish Cote in the fourth or fifth round.

Leites (14-1) lost his UFC debut at "The Ultimate 4 Finale" in November 2006, but rebounded to win his next five fights, including a win over former King of Pancrase Nathan Marquardt.

The venue has not been announced yet.
