UFC 96: Brandon Vera-Michael Patt Should Give Vera an Easy Win

Brandon Vera is expected to take on Michael Patt in a light heavyweight undercard bout at UFC 96 in Columbus.

The fight, first reported by Five Ounces of Pain, is designed to give Vera an easy win. Patt has only fought in the Octagon once, at UFC 88, where he lost a first-round TKO to Tim Boetsch. UFC President Dana White has always liked Vera, and the organization would like him to develop into a bigger star, so that's why he gets a fight he should definitely win.

Of course, with Vera, there are no sure things. He's 1-3 in his last four fights, and that one win was about as unimpressive as wins get, an extremely boring decision over Reese Andy.

Still, I would expect Vera to win this fight decisively, and that decisiive win will help the UFC market him in the Philippines, where Vera's father was born. The UFC views the Philippines as a potentially lucrative market, and that makes Vera a valuable fighter. Maybe against Patt he'll start to look like a good fighter as well.
