Randy Couture discusses his training for Brock Lesnar, his opponent at UFC 91, and how similar their backgrounds are:
"I've got a couple big guys in camp," Couture said of preparation for Lesnar. "They've been pushing me: Getting used to being on the bottom, getting used to moving around a big guy like Brock. I think we'll be ready."
Obviously, getting used to being on the bottom is necessary in preparation, but I think the key to winning for Couture will be avoiding being on the bottom in the first place. I see Couture winning if it's a stand-up fight.
As for scouting Lesnar, Couture said, "I only had three fights to watch on Brock, but I have a pretty good idea where he's coming from because it's the same place I came from, a collegiate wrestler with that wrestling mentality and wrestling background."
Note: Couture mentioned that his gym, Xtreme Couture, doesn't take a percentage of the purses of its fighters, instead charging fighters the same dues it charges regular folks who come in off the street. That's unusual; most of the time professional fighters pay their managers and trainers a percentage of their earnings.
