DREAM middleweight Melvin Manhoef retires

Muay Thai wrecking machine Melvin Manhoef has retired, according to German-language website goundandpound.de. The report cites Manhoef as saying he'd like to spend more time with his young family and that a seven day a week, three hour a day training regimen prevents that.

Manhoef made a career out of brutal knockouts. The Dutch middleweight was a combination of formidable muay thai technique and explosive physical power that made him one of the most feared strikers in the sport. The announcement comes on the heels of a submission loss in Dream's middleweight tournament to eventual tournament champion Gegard Mousasi.

It is still unclear if the retirement refers his MMA career, kickboxing career, or both, but with the recent retirement then return of British striker Paul Daley, fans hope that the 32-year-old Manhoef won't be gone for good.
