WEC confirms Torres-Tapia bantamweight title bout

Miguel Torres will make his second bantamweight title defense when he faces Manny Tapia at WEC 37 on December 3 in Las Vegas.

The WEC confirmed the bout today for its final event of 2008. Tickets for the Versus-televised event from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino go on sale Monday, October 6 at 10am PT.

Torres (34-1) revealed to last month that Tapia (10-0-1) would be his opponent but no venue was set at that time.

Tapia was originally slated to meet Torres for the title in June, but Tapia had to undergo surgery for a torn ligament in his knee. Tapia actually fought with the injury when he defeated Antonio Banuelos via split decision in February.

Pancrase champion Yoshiro Maeda stepped in to fight Torres and the two treated fans to one of the best fights of the year. Torres retained his title when the fight was stopped by doctors after three rounds due to Maeda's swollen eye. Torres captured the title in February over wrestler Chase Beebe.

Tapia joined the WEC in May 2007 after fighting exclusively for King of the Cage since 2003. Tapia has remained undefeated with his two victories inside the WEC cage.
