Akihiro Gono: Misaki-Riggs stoppage was early

UFC welterweight Akihiro Gono agrees with the general consensus that teammate Kazuo Misaki's fight against Joe Riggs was stopped too early.

"I didn't like the way their fight ended," Gono wrote on his blog. "His opponent guarded with both arms to avoid getting pounds. I will definitely complain if I'm the one who lost like that."

Misaki was stunned with left, but woke up to drop Riggs with a right and followed with punches to draw the referee stoppage at 2:29 of round 2 in the main event of "Strikeforce at the Mansion 2" Saturday at the Playboy Mansion.

Gono was glad to see his friend pick up his first win in the US but would have preferred to see a more definitive finish.

"Even if the referee didn't stop the fight at that moment, Kazuo would end up winning that fight by KO or submission for sure," Gono wrote.

Misaki will fight again for Strikeforce next year, once he takes one more fight for World Victory Road "Sengoku" in Japan.
