Matt Hughes won't require surgery on injured knee

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes says he probably won't be needing surgery for his torn ACL and MCL.

"It all came back very positive and looks as though I will not need surgery," Hughes wrote Wednesday on his blog of the results of his MRI and stress X-ray tests conducted last week. "I still have to go back for my three month check-up to find out more, but as of right now I can do more and start exercising a little bit."

Hughes suffered a torn MCL and a partially torn PCL when he landed awkwardly on his knee in the closing moments of his loss to Thiago Alves in the main event of the June 7 UFC 85 "Bedlam" in London.
