Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta both had some interesting comments for Mike Chiappetta of NBC Sports:
Fertitta's comments were particularly worth noting on two of the highest-profile fighters in the sport.
On UFC heavyweight champion in exile Randy Couture, who's engaged in litigation with the organization, Fertitta said, "I've got a lot of respect for Randy Couture. I've known Randy Couture for a long time. I had a great relationship with him. Of course, everybody at some point wants to hope things will get better."
And on Rampage Jackson, who faces charges of a hit-and-run accident that caused a woman to have a miscarriage, Fertitta said, "The No. 1 priority for us is to make sure Rampage is OK. The bottom line is he is a great guy. He really is a great guy. He went through a process where he was dehydrated, he hadn't slept for a couple days, he had a phase of delerium, but he's fine, and I do believe his career will be back on track soon, and he's going to be ready to roll, which is good because he's a really good fighter and a good person."
As Fertitta takes on a more active role within the UFC, it's interesting that he tends to present the kinder, gentler side of the business, while UFC President Dana White takes on the role of the classic fight promoter. It works well for UFC.
