Baroni to drop down to welterweight at Cage Rage 27

In an effort to rejuvenate his career, Phil Baroni will try his hand in the welterweight division.

Baroni (10-10), signed to EliteXC, will compete in sister promotion Cage Rage, on July 12 at the Wembley Arena in London. According to The Fight Network, Baroni's opponent will be Scott Jansen (3-2), a striker who worked his way up from Cage Rage Contenders.

Baroni has lost five of his last seven and three straight -- all in brutal fashion -- against Frank Shamrock, Kala Hose and Joey Villasenor.

Baroni has shown an ability in the past to turn things around. In 2005, the former bodybuilder went on a solid stint with PRIDE after leaving the UFC on four straight losses.
