Fedor vs. Sylvia for the WAMMA heavyweight title

The first-ever WAMMA heavyweight champion will be crowned at the conclusion of the Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia bout at "Affliction: Banned" on July 19 in Anaheim, California.

The WAMMA (World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts), an organization "dedicated to leading the sport of MMA to unprecedented levels of integrity, legitimacy and prosperity," was founded in part to recognize the best fighters in each division throughout all organizations. However, the legitimacy of it crowning an undisputed champion is often criticized since the biggest promotion in the world, the UFC, has no interest in cooperating with the group.

Emelianenko is currently number one in the WAMMA rankings, while Sylvia stands at number four. The number two and three spots are filled by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Randy Couture, who are both under contract with the UFC.

Affliction will be the first fight organization to promote bouts with the WAMMA championship belt. For the complete "Affliction: Banned" card, click here.
